The Cityscape Show at George Billis LA

THE CITYSCAPE SHOW VIII
June 30th - July 21st, 2018
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 30th, 5 - 8pm

George Billis Gallery is pleased to present The Cityscape Show VIII, a group show of works by gallery artists and invited guest artists. The exhibition runs from June 30th to July 21st with a reception on Saturday, June 30th from 5-8pm.

The Cityscape Show VIII is the gallery’s eighth exhibition of its kind. The show is a visual exploration of the environs we inhabit. Los Angeles is a unique city in many regards - in its architecture, geography, and natural environment. Spanning a space that includes mountains, ocean, and desert, Los Angeles and Southern California are a source of immense inspiration to many artists. This exhibition brings together a group of artists whose individual works together show a multifaceted and fascinating city.  These pieces illustrate the ever-changing urban landscape.  From the downtown skyscrapers and iconic landmarks to the graffiti-ed back alleys and vast freeway networks, from the bright lights of the Hollywood Hills and clean lines of mid-century modern architecture to the train bridges and gritty rail yards, Southern California is striking in all its extremes.

he exhibition includes works by Adco, Alex Blas, Derek Buckner, Patricia Chidlaw, Larry Cohen, Bruce Everett, Elizabeth Gahan, Lisa Golightly, Hans Habeger, Harrison Halaska, Kenny Harris, Adam Harrison, Danny Heller, Eric Hesse, Peter Hiers, Lynda Keeler, Mary-Austin Klein, Raymond Logan, Deborah Martin, Rick Monzon, Matthew de Mosier, Judy Nimtz, Gregory Prestergord, Gay Summer Rick, Ben Schwab, Barbara Strasen, Terry Thompson, Deborah Martin, and Lindsey Warren.

George Billis Gallery opened its second location in the Culver City area of Los Angeles in 2004 and marks its 18th year in the Chelsea arts district in New York City. George Billis shows work by both emerging and established artists. For more information please contact the gallery at:

THE LA ARTS & CULTURE WEEKLY REVIEW

Throughout history, societies and communities that embraced the arts often found themselves at the forefront of social and political change – decades ahead of those that have discouraged or diminished the role of the arts in their societies.  Our rich history of social and political progress is due in no small part to the active and courageous artistic community that calls Southern California home. We hope that by highlighting the rising stars of our local art community on a weekly basis, we can help increase our community’s engagement with local art and the artists that devote their life to moving society forward.

FULL BLEDE

Issue Four: The Pattern
released March 2018

FULL BLEDE's fourth issue explores explores the appearance of sameness. Collaborators share systems of recurrences, whether found in nature, in society at large, or self-manufactured. The broadsheet reveals repetition in our environment but also in behaviours, relationships, and personal routines. Artists and writers elaborate on the air of coherence, which is often the complete opposite: chaotic, messy, and wholly unique, despite its seeming monotony.

The issue features over 40 contributors and launched at Charlie James Gallery in conjunction with the closing receptions for William Powhida: After 'After the Contemporary' and IT'S OK↘, curated by Sacha Baumann ; 200 copies were printed.

FULL BLEDE

I am pleased to have contributed a few images to Issue two of FULL BLEDE! Copies are available to order from the website.

Issue Two: The City
available now at Charlie James Gallery
FULL BLEDE’s second issue finds our talented group of collaborators ruminating the urban condition: how we move, work, live, interact within, survive, enjoy, and view metropoles. For some the environs are decay, trash, sadness, chaos, for others it is a solitary, quiet place amidst the noise. For many it is community, beauty, and indulgence. Whether dark, bright, isolating, inviting—each of our 21 contributors has a unique expression of The City. The broadsheet is delighted to share their words, design, painting, and illustration.
